Minnesota 1995
1x1
In September of l995, we drove to Duluth, Minnesota. On our way we stopped at the Mall of American in Minneapolis. We were amazed at how big the mall was and the fact that it had been a professional baseball field. They had a display of Lego blocks made in the shape of dinosaurs, clowns and construction of buildings that reached the top of the mall ceiling. They also had a Ferris wheel and roller coaster that we were brave enough to ride inside the mall. In Duluth, we stayed two nights in an 18th century home that had been converted into a bed and breakfast residence. This home was magnificent and even had a dance floor with oak flooring and open stairway that was used periodically for weddings. The people who owned the bed and breakfast served us our meals on crystal and china and made us feel right at home. We also stayed at the old Fitger Brewing Company that had been converted into a hotel and shops along the waterfront of Lake Superior. We walked along the boardwalk at night and enjoyed the sounds of the fog horns as the coast guard warned the ships that they were nearing shore. We toured an old, retired iron ore ship and took an aerial flight over the city in a seaplane. The Corps of Engineers had a museum near Park Pointe with many old sea faring pieces of equipment including a diesel and steam engine. The fall scenery was outstanding with oak trees of all different colors against the background of white birch and green pines.
