Washington DC 1987
1x1
In May of l987, we decided to fly to Washington, DC to see a part of our history and see the famous "cherry blossoms". We have never walked so far and seen so much during a six-day period of time. They were even selling shirts on the sidewalk with little feet on the shirts with the wording,"We walked our....off in Washington, DC.!

We flew into Kennedy Airport, stayed in a motel in Bethesda, Maryland and from then on our transportation to almost everything was by the underground Metro rail system...which was fantastic. We did take a bus tour to see the Library of Congress, Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We had special passes from our Congressman to take a guided tour through the White House and with more WALKING we saw several of the Smithsonian Institute Museums. We rode the Metro to see the National Zoo and even saw a play, Sheer Madness, at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts. We went to the top of the Washington Monument and did some more WALKING on the National Mall. One night, we rode the Metro to the Capital where we took pictures and sat on the Capital steps. We still talk about our bravery or stupidity and "whose idea this was"!!
