Canada/Ontario 2001

After lots of searching on the internet for a "different" kind of vacation, we decided to spend a week at the Red Indian Lodge in Sioux Narrows, Ontario.  I wasn't sure I was cut out for fishing but the lodge advertised that it was a World Class Fishing Resort. Berk wanted so much to fish again in Canada as he had many years ago and for me to "experience" this  type of vacation!  So, we left on the morning of August 8th and drove to Duluth, MN.  We  spent the night in a lovely motel overlooking Lake Superior.

The next morning we drove across the Canadian border at International Falls and after a few more hours of driving we arrived at the Red Indian Lodge.  We met the Manager and his wife and they showed us to a lovely log cabin that we would stay in for the next three days.  Every morning, after breakfast, we had an experienced Indian guide take us fishing for the day.  We caught so many fish it was unbelievable and so much fun.    We caught our limit of Northern, Walleye, some small mouth Bass and several Perch.  The guide cleaned and packed them in dry ice ready for us to bring home.  He also cooked us lunch on the bank each day...I can still smell the fish cooking with fried potatoes, bacon, corn and beans.  Berk and I both caught a Northern that was over 27 inches long, and that was a struggle!  We saw bald eagles, pelicans, sea gulls and the most beautiful scenery.  There was a black bear shot in the night as we slept that had been terrorizing the workers and getting in the trash.  We felt like we were "way up North"!

The lodge had a game room where we played several games of pool in the evening plus they had bicycles and walking trails for exercise.  We really enjoyed the view from the deck of our cabin and just breathing in that wonderful Canadian air.

All too soon it was time to leave and start our drive home.  We stopped in Iowa to see my Mother and it was fun showing her our video.  We are so glad to have these memories and fish to share with our friends in a real Fish Fry!
