In February of 2001, we were getting cabin fever and decided it would be a good time to get away from the cold weather in Kansas City. We had friends in Florida that had asked us to "please come and enjoy the sunshine" so we used the internet to bid on airline tickets and car rental and just couldn't turn down "those bargain prices"!
We flew into the Tampa airport and rented a car and spent 3 days in Ocala. We left Ocala and drove to Winter Haven and spent 2 days there. We have very special friends and enjoyed visiting and seeing where each couple was spending their winter retirement. Points of interest we enjoyed while there were the Highlands Hammock State Park, Bok Tower Gardens ,Cypress Gardens and Dora Canal. We spent our last day basking in the sun at Bradenton beach before coming back to cold Kansas City. Little did we know that we had picked the worse week Kansas City had experienced, hardly a day without ice and snow.
