Nevada 1998
1x1
In May of l998, we spent a wonderful week vacationing with my sister Jeanne and her husband Kenny. We flew into the Las Vegas airport on Saturday where they picked us up in their new Cadillac. Kenny had planned our time together down to the last detail! We called him our special travel agent as he did such a good job. Our first night was spent in Springdale, Utah after driving through Zion National Park. Sunday, we headed for the Grand Canyon and stayed that night at the Grand Canyon Lodge. There was lots of snow along the highways and it was definitely sweater weather. We had a guided tour and nature walk with a ranger and got to enjoy the beautiful view of the canyon from rocking chairs on the lodge veranda. On Monday, we left the north rim and visited the Pipe Springs National Monument and toured the Mormon Temple. We spent the night in Mesquite, Nevada where we had wonderful rooms, buffet dinner and did some gambling. On Tuesday, we were back in the Las Vegas area and ready to do some more sight seeing. We spent time at Circus-Circus taking in all their free acts, which were just great. We walked to the Stratosphere and rode to the top for a panoramic view of Las Vegas. The highlight of our trip to Vegas was the Siefried & Roy Show at the Mirage. We had seats on the front row and if we had wanted to, we could have reached out and touched the tigers on the runway. On Wednesday, we drove to Hoover Dam where we took a tour and saw a video presentation of this wonderful part of history. We also toured the Cranberry West Factory, Kidds Marshmallow Factory and Ethel M. Chocolate Factory, all for a very minimal admission fee. We also stopped at Sams Town Casino to do a little more gambling! On Thursday, we went to the Liberace Museum and then spent the rest of the day walking our feet off going through and admiring the various casinos and their decor. New York New York and Excalibur were among our favorites. Then back to Circus-Circus to see more of their free acts. On Friday, we did more sight seeing and even saw Rosie O'Donnell gambling at a poker table in Caesar's Palace. As we were about entertained out, we decided to spend our last night together having a wonderful buffet dinner, complete with piano music at the Maxim Casino. On Saturday, Jeanne & Kenny took us to the airport and we said our good-byes. We weren't lucky with the little gambling we did, but we were very lucky to have seen such great sights and spend our vacation with this very "special" couple.
