Hawaii 1996
1x1
In January of l996, we went on a seven-day trip to Hawaii. We went with a group from Allen Tours through Global Holidays. The night before we left was spent at a motel near the Kansas City Internal Airport as the weather was getting bad with ice and snow and we didn't want to take the chance of not getting to the airport on time. The next morning was the coldest of the year, about - 5 degrees...a good time to leave for Hawaii! We left Kansas City at 10:00 am, refueled in San Francisco and arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii at 4:25 pm ( a 5-hour time difference). We spent the first three nights at a hotel on Waikiki Beach. Each day we went on a tour planned by Allen Tours. Highlights of our days in Oahu were the Arizona Memorial, the Polynesian Cultural Center and a tour of the city, which included sight seeing of Lolani Palace, the State Capital, Governor's Mansion and the Punchbowl National Cemetery. We spent the remainder of our time in Hawaii on the island of Maui. We stayed at the Royal Lahina Hotel. Highlights of our days in Maui were whale watching, walking on the beach, a fantastic submarine ride and a scenic winding drive to see an inactive volcano. We arrived in Kansas City the evening of January 30th, a city still covered with ice and snow, with enough memories of tropical beauty and tranquility to last a lifetime.
